*Roller Derby- If you ever wanted to be part of a Roller Derby team then contact me Immediately. I have spaces available for women's and men's teams here in Thousand Oaks. Skills welcomed but not required. Space is limited. You will be trained by me personally. Learn the necessary skate skills, teamwork, game rules and strategies to play effectively and safely.

*Jamskating- Will be holding clinics for Jamskating skills. Know that in order to learn these skills effectively a skater would need a strong basic foundation to build from. So see skills classes before coming to this class. This class will help you focus on your center and stance as well as building a repertoire of moves based on musicality with a hip hop and jazz flavor while biting on other styles like old school disco, funk, b-boy and Breaksk8ing. In this class we will build routines for fun as well as to display in our showcases.

Hockey- we have ongoing classes and pick up games of all ages and divisions. Call for details or check out rollerdome.com.

Open Session and Showcases- These will be open for anyone to skate freely, practice their skills or Jam out in the middle of the floor. An opportunity for fun and creativity to display and share your skills. Occasionally during these sessions we will have a Showcase that allows skaters to show what they have learned. I'm so excited about this.

*Ultra Beginner Skills Classes- This class is for you skaters who have never skated in your life or who tried and visualized an unhealthy outcome. This class focuses on the physical as well as the mental aspects of skating. Have you ever tried to do something daring and when you counted to 3 your body just would not cooperate? That is your mind in fear because your body doesn't trust what you want it to do. That is where I come in. Grab your skates and pads out of the closet and come see me. I will help you conquer your fear and the elusive skating fun. It's not about trying to survive on skates anymore by only standing up and stopping. It's about attacking your environment with confidence and fun. Let's get you started.

*ROLLOUT workout and skills classes- So you have some skate skill but you don't know where to go and you don't want to go skating alone. These classes are designed to work you on your skills at levels that give you the ultimate workout for your legs, glutes, core and even your upper body. You will feel the burn while rolling through various exercises like pace lines, rolling squats, stops and starts, jumping and many more variations of fun. Yes you too can take this because you are learning the skills as you go. Not only do you learn the skills through steps but you will apply them in various drills so that you can not only own those skills but you will learn how to safely, and with lots of fun, know how to use them out on the sidewalk or on that beach path or park. You will be surprised how much of a workout learning can be. You will discover that you will have many others in the class to skate with and interact with while working out. There will be others like yourself and why not bring a friend or two!?

*Mommy and Me- Hi new Mommies. You too can join in on the fun. Our Mommy and kids classes are designed to give mom a workout at the same time drawing mom and child together in a fun activity. Mommy and Me is about learning and building trust and confidence between big kid and lil kid while at the same time laughing and giggling and having a good time on skates. No pants peeing allowed while giggling.

*Roller Stroller Moms- is exactly that. For you moms that want to work off what your newborn left behind on you, here is a class that allows other moms like yourself to skate while pushing your baby joggers around in various activities. In case you didn't realize, this class is far from roller derby even though there are buggies involved. This is a slow and safe-paced, consistant moving class that gives mom the skills on skates to learn how to handle herself and her stroller while skating outdoors and at the same time getting a decent burn and workout while your baby learns to enjoy a kiddy ride in a controlled environment. Bring your friends with lil tykes or make new ones in the class.

Instructor Certification- We will host instructor examination/certification courses for those that want to play their part in skating instruction and safety. Skate IA certifies skaters in level 1, level 2 and skill specific levels. If you are in the area and would like to attend the course for new certification or renewals, contact myself or go to www.skateia.com for more information. Skate IA (Instructors Association)was previously known as USSG (United Skate Schools Group). USSG had taken over where IISA (International Inline Skate Association) had left off.

*Pre-registration is required. Class minimum is 5 students.

GOALS
FEARS
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

Goals: When asked what most people want from skating lessons their response is usually along the lines of 'I just want to be able to stand up and stop'! There's so much more fun to skating than taking a lesson or 2 and trying to fumble your way around. My classes at the Rollerdome not only give you the highest quality of instruction but also serve as a means to practice your new skills while at the same time building your strength, balance and endurance. You will not be alone. You will interact with others like yourself in the many drills and exercises which makes it so much more fun and productive. Your GOAL? To come to class ready to have fun.

So let's get you started in class.

Fears: Everyone has fears when it comes to skating. 2 in particular: fear of falling and fear of looking stupid, to put it bluntly. Everyone associates falling with getting hurt. This is not necessarily so with proper instruction. Falling also does not make you look stupid. Diving for a pole or another person might. Also, what you may not percieve as fears, your body reacts in it's own instinctive way that in most cases on skates can be disastrous.

We will focus on facing and understanding those fears as well as how to react properly when falling and avoiding situations or movements that cause one to fall dangerously. We will need to reprogram the way you see skating and falling and how your body instinctively reacts.

Realistic Expectations: How long does it take for you to learn how to skate? That's not really a question that can be answered. If we set goals like learning how to skate backwards, crossovers or heel stops, then you might be able to learn the basics of these skills within a class or two but time and practice perfects them. There is no set number of lessons. Besides, let's not think bare minimum. let's think fun and effective.
